This talk will present the development and verification of the first parallel and high-performance pure-Python software tanuki™/PyFDEM. tanuki™/PyFDEM is a cutting-edge, commercial tool for addressing complex engineering problems in the mining, civil engineering, and in the energy sector. It employs the finite-discrete element method (FDEM) to model the mechanical behaviour of brittle materials. By utilising the power of just-in time compilation (LLVM) and multithreading computations (MPI), tanuki™/PyFDEM is able to overcome the computational limitations of traditional FDEM codes and achieve significant speed improvements. This is demonstrated in the talk with results from the simulation of multi-body dynamic systems.
