Homogenization based topology optimization of a coupled thermal fluid-structure problem

We propose to explore the topology optimization of a simplified coupled model of heat conduction, fluid flow and elasticity. The goal is to optimize the homogenized formulation of this three physics problem, where the three physical phenomena are assumed to be weakly coupled, enabling the sequential resolution of the 3 PDEs for a given state rather than the fully coupled system. The fluid-structure interaction within the porous medium is described by a Biot-Darcy flow. In the numerical computations, we restrict the allowed composite materials to a particular class of isotropic microstructures that have been pre-computed, like in the pioneering paper introducing the homogenization method for structural optimization (Bendsoe, Kikuchi 1993).
