Finite Element Approximation of Reaction-Diffusion Equations on Metric Graphs and its Application to the Modeling of Tau Propagation in Alzheimer's Disease

The propagation of tau proteins in Alzheimer's disease is modeled by reaction-diffusion equations on a metric graph representing the human brain. The reaction-diffusion equations are solved by a finite element semidiscretization followed by IMEX time-stepping methods in combination with a graph-specific matrix-free multigrid solver.
