Instability of two-layer viscoelastic flows

Instability of two-phase plane flows of Newtonian/viscoelastic and viscoelastic/viscoelastic systems is studied. Direct numerical simulation is applied to investigate the stabilizing or destabilizing effects due to viscoelasticity. Where results differ from that for purely Newtonian systems, the conditions under which elasticity can make an otherwise stable interface unstable are studied.
