Partial Mean-Field Models for Neurotransmission Processes

In this talk we consider a stochastic particle-based model for the spatiotemporal binding dynamics of calcium ions and vesicles within the process of neurotransmission. Based on the multiscale structure of the dynamics, we derive a hybrid model that combines particle-based dynamics with an approximation by partial differential equations. Results from numerical experiments are presented, showing that the hybrid model provides an accurate approximation of the full particle-based model in realistic scenarios.
