Within the context of the euroHPC initiative MICROCARD, we present recent findings on GPU-resident BDDC preconditioning in simulations of the electrophysiology of the human heart using the Extracellular Space, Membrane, and Intracellular Space (EMI) model with a new implementation of the preconditioner in the Ginkgo open source library for sparse linear algebra. We utilize a new geometric classification criterion for degrees of freedom on subdomain interfaces, aiding in the generation of a coarse space. This criterion is particularly useful in scenarios where subdomains associated with the extracellular space surround subdomains associated with the intracellular space and enables us to account for discontinuous potential across cell membranes.
