This study discusses a method of structural representation of multimaterial topology optimization for unsteady heat transfer problems. In general, an extended SIMP method is used for multi-material structural representation, but this method depends on the order of material definition. To overcome this, the discrete material optimization (DMO) method is used in this study, where the order of material suitability does not depend on the optimization results. The differences between the optimization results obtained using the extended SIMP and DMO methods are discussed to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.
