Advancements in cardiovascular simulations demand a closer examination of the interplay between in silico computational models and in vivo physiological observations. This presentation introduces lifex-cfd (https://lifex.gitlab.io/cfd.html), an open-source CFD solver tailored for cardiovascular simulations. Navigating the complexities of cardiovascular dynamics, lifex-cfd, built on the lifex finite element library, employs modern C++ and distributed memory parallelism. This talk offers an in-depth exploration of the mathematical foundation of cardiovascular simulations, numerical discretization, and implementation details. Rigorous convergence analyses and exceptional parallel speedup underscore the solver's reliability, setting the stage for its application in the critical assessment of patient-specific cardiac models. The presentation showcases lifex-cfd through a series of test cases. From idealized scenarios to patient-specific vascular and cardiac simulations, the talk demonstrates the solver ability in capturing the intricacies of cardiovascular dynamics.
