We present a novel high-order space—time isogeometric discretization of the linear acoustic wave equation. Using B-splines of arbitrary degree both in space and time, we propose a space—time variational formulation that is obtained by adding a non-consistent penalty term to the bilinear form coming from integration by parts. This allows us to design an unconditionally stable scheme that exhibits remarkable approximation, dissipation, and dispersion properties, as shown by extensive numerical evidence.
