The concept of representative crack element was initially developed to address challenges related to accurate deformation kinematics in problems involving free discontinuities [1]. This framework is established in alignment with a recently introduced unified variational theory designed to accommodate a wide range of multi-scale models based on representa- tive volume element [2]. One of its key benefits is that, when subjected to various loading conditions, a fully cracked model exhibits numerically degraded results that align with expected physical outcomes [3]. This work revisits nucleation within the framework of the representative crack element in the context of the phase-field approach to brittle fracture. To demonstrate its capabilities, we delves into various numerical examples.
