In the base isolation system, there are commonly lead rubber damping (LRB), high damping rubber (HDRB) and fiber reinforced elastomeric isolator (FREI) applied in the structures. Due to production cost and difficult installation, a novel seismic isolation device including seismic isolator and S-shaped steel dampers (SSSDs) is investigated and compared with common isolation devices in this paper. The numerical models of seismic isolation devices can be established in ABAQUS to identify the differences of different isolation systems. Based on finite element method, mechanical properties of different isolation devices are compared and identified, especially in aspect of effective horizontal stiffness and damping ratio. It is obviously found that seismic isolator with SSSDs exhibit better isolation performance than common isolation systems, which can be applied in the buildings instead of common isolator. Furthermore, the low cost and easy installation of seismic isolator with SSSDs are adopted as a reference to be applied in the practical engineering.
