Current methods for simulating 3D-printed components manufactured through deposition based technologies, controlled by G-Code files, rely on simplified models that do not account for complex internal geometry typical of additive manufacturing (AM). To address this limitation, a methodology able to extract the 3D real printed geometry suitable for Finite Element Analyses (FEAs) is presented, proving an high accuracy in representing the produced parts. Furthermore, by eliminating the need to represent also the voids in virtual geometry, FEAs result more efficient and cost-effective.
