Isogeometric Galerkin Method for Equilibrium-Based Interlaminar Stress Recovery of Laminated Composite Plates

This study presents an accurate stress recovery method for Kirchhoff laminated composite plates. Our method effectively recovers the out-of-plane stress using the Gallerkin formulation of isogeometric analysis (IGA) with classical composite plate theory. Extending upon previous works from cross-ply laminates to arbitrary ply angle orientations, non-symmetric, and unbalanced laminates, we improve the performance of the model. The accuracy of our method is demonstrated by validation based on 3D finite element results obtained in Abaqus. This method offers computational efficiency and accuracy, which are important advances in the stress analysis of laminated composites.
